Connection and Its Many Forms - Artist Statement

'Connection and Its Many Forms' is an expression of my interwoven, and often complicated, feelings surrounding love and intimacy. The piece started with a limited colour palette of blue and black – Feelings of unrequited love, a lack of reciprocated romance, and loneliness.

As the piece evolved, I started to look deeper into those feelings. I realized that this sadness was also holding a sense of disconnection from self, and a lack of self love. This is when the colour palette started to shift. I added green – A symbol of growth, hope, and opportunity for self-connection and other forms of intimacy and connection.

The blues turned into purple, mixing both sadness and passion – Allowing myself to hold both feelings of grief and this new sense of connection with self. The wispy lines were the final addition – A visual reminder of the many different types of connection and intimacy. They are all important, they can all take on many forms. They can all be connected. We can hold space for them all.

Painting Playlist

My art is heavily influenced by the music I listen to when I make it. Both painting and music are tools I hold dear in my creative expressions. Here is a Spotify playlist, compiling some of the songs that were on rotation while working on this piece.
